Theme Deck Review Compendium: Nemesis “Slither”

At first I was doing a little tally everytime I hit a WU Skies or RG Beats deck with these posts but I think I must have stopped doing that at some point? RG is certainly in the lead currently though. And here’s another!

Slither

A Red and Green deck which leans in on the set’s “Tapped Lands Matter” theme.

I thought this was a sliver deck, but I was wrong. My fault

a friend of mine fused 2 copies of this decks best bits together and it seemed incredibly powerful at the time, used to burn our games out with “the shitadel of pain” very quickly

@possiblystevo9141

Mungha Wurm is so counter productive to the idea of the deck as you want to be able to play more creatures so you have to keep lands untapped for you to play all these expensive 3 and 4 mana creatures which means you can’t tap out for 3 to 4 turns. But hey who doesn’t like giving themselves a 1 sided easy to kill Winter Orb that can be chump blocked for a long time? I agree though this deck is in dire need of a full playset of Chimeric Idols. Probably one of the best cards in Prophecy.

@shadow264

The most Prophecy of the Prophecy theme decks. I tried to make a Citadel of Pain deck work back in the day, and would totally give it another go now if mana burn was still a thing. (RIP) But even I, a precon tragic and Prophecy defender, struggle with this particular deck. I plan to build it, still, and I guess we’ll see how it plays. But my vote for worst precon of the block.

Hint: it’s not one of the top 5! 😉

This is a pretty interesting deck in that in some situations it actually rewards you for deliberately suffering mana burn: many of the creatures double in power when you’re tapped out, so you may want to mana burn yourself at times just to get that benefit. After all, if you can kill your opponent twice as fast, what’s 2 or 3 damage a turn? Thankfully, it has a few cards like Chimeric Idol and Silt Crawler that help avoid that situation. All in all, it’s not an incredibly powerful deck, but it is creative and can win you a few casual games.

Thank you Will for a really nice, concise, and considered review. Especially in contrast to:

Ein sehr schönes Deck ich liebe die älteren Karten wider gut

@corinnageorg9074

“A very nice deck, I love the older cards again”

@adampescador8054

“Cool idea!👍 But that’s a deck that I would never put together myself. Quite strange and risky strategy being pursued here in the deck. I can really understand why the Mercadian Masks block wasn’t well received by players🙈”

I probably should make more of an effort to fire comments on Herr Doktor’s videos through google translate. That, or learn German? Love all the engagement he gets!
