Weatherlight: Gatecrasher Review (Part 1 of 2)
What better place to end our trip through the Theme Decks of Mirage block than in the jungle? It’s been a long trek through the sultry, buzzing, chattering jungles of Jamuraa these past couple of months, and at last we’re about to come out the other side.
Jay was as confused about the Weatherlight information void as I am: which shows it wasn’t just that it didn’t get archived.
Weatherlight: Gatecrasher Review (Part 2 of 2)
Hits: Wall of Roots wears two hats, and wears them perfectly here; cumulative upkeep beaters well-positioned in the deck to start bringing the wood after you get your board situated; ample mana ramping helps ensure you don’t get stuck with them in your hand most of the time; solid burn package
Misses: cumulative upkeep still offers a feel-bad experience for many; absence of Quirion Elves a bit puzzling given doubling-up of Granger Guildmage over the previous R/G deck in the block
OVERALL SCORE: 4.20/5.00
(f)Art Focus
As amazing as the art in this block generally is… there’s also stuff like this. It may seem hard to believe, but arguably this isn’t even the worst interpretation of Redwood Treefolk. (That’s the 7th Edition version)
I do think this are really cool, but at the same time collating the reviews for these – the two different sources that I could find which had actually covered them – I think felt a bit rote-y for me by the end. Which is why I got sidetracked by RKF and then the art as a whole. But then why not draw attention to that side of things? Art is so important and probably gets overlooked a bit.
I’ll be cracking on with Tempest next which will mean a burst of extra content to look at, with lots of different opinions to consider. Will be nice.
